THE ART OF PESTO

Classic Pesto from Kinfolk on Vimeo.

the etsy blog has just posted a bit with kinfolk magazine on the art of pesto. the recipe they used is from heidi swanson of 101 cookbooks. if only more recipes could be portrayed this way... pesto is one of those things that is either right or wrong wrong wrong. it's so easy to make it too strong - i've had a couple of close encounters after ordering it. i'm thinking i'll need to give this recipe a whirl and see what happens. to read the article on etsy go here.

as i was browsing swissmiss i saw this wonderful video of shirley temple singing be optimistic. i was just saying to my mom this morning before we both left: "we can do it! we can do it! we can do it! no complaining!" she has been in a month long training program at work and i have been working my buns off while getting ready to move out west - everyday i remind myself "you look much more beautiful when you smile". so when i saw this little vid i couldn't help but break out in a big grin- the tune, the lyrics, the adorable little shirley temple (heidi from my childhood).

letterpress : an instructional video.

Letterpress from Naomie Ross on Vimeo.

here is a great instructional video on using a letterpress. short and sweet. it's hard to fully appreciate the behind-the-scenes construction that goes into letterpress work until you have to face the massive machine yourself. this video gives a peek at how letterpress works, so if you're ever fortunate enough to do letterpress yourself, do it! the end result is well worth the work. warning: patience is required

ep #139: cindy sherman.

"episode #139: cindy sherman reveals how dressing up in character began as a kind of performance and evolved into her earliest photographic series such as "bus riders" (1976), "untitled film stills" (1970-1980), and the untitled rear screen projections (1980)." definitely worth taking a peek!

india block printing.

"west elm produced this video after meeting hand-block printing artisans on a recent trip to india’s rajasthan. it is so amazing to watch as they intricately carve patterns out of teak blocks and create prints using richly colored pigment dyes." i particularly enjoy the "karate chop" when they are pressing the blocks on the fabric. (OK i know it's not really a karate chop...)

Bach’s Cantata 147, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.

My jaw literally dropped as I watched this amazingness. Definitely worth three minutes of your time! By combining many (aka a shit ton!) pieces of wood, they were able to make a long, downhill track that was able to reproduce Bach’s Cantata 147, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. Created by  Kenjiro Matsuo of Invisible Designs Lab.

Michael Wolff : Intel Visual Life.

Designer and creative advisor, Michael Wolff's philosophy on design and branding. I like his color coded closet... we could bond over this great organization tool.
