William Fitzsimmons was born on the outskirts of Pittsburgh the youngest son of two blind parents. His childhood home was filled with a myriad of sounds to replace what eyes could not see; pianos, guitars, trombones, talking birds, classical records, family sing-a-longs, bedtime stories, and a pipe organ which his father had built into their home with his own two hands.
