Alexander McQueen Retrospective.

Here are a few items included in the unveiling of the 19-year career of Alexander McQueen’s exhibition, entitled Savage Beauty, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. A preview of the show, which will run 4 May to 31 July 2011, was presented by Anna Wintour and Samantha Cameron at the Ritz as part of London fashion week.

The curator of the Metroplitan’s Costume Institute, Andrew Bolton said: “His fashions were an outlet for his emotions, an expression of the deepest, often darkest, aspects of his imagination. He was a true romantic in the Byronic sense of the word – he channelled the sublime.”

Brigitte Kowanz.

The starting point of Brigitte Kowanz's work in the early 80s was the rejection of the conventional definitions of picture and work achieved by the use of phosphorescent colours and coloured lights. She was honored by MUMOK in Vienna which exhibited her works from 1983 to the present.

Studio Makkink & Bey.

Blankets hang from wooden frames to represent a rural village in this installation at Helmrinderknecht gallery in Berlin by Dutch designers of Studio Makkink & Bey. They have been pegged over wooden frames as though visitors are walking through a series of washing lines or a drawn village.

Small Stories Big Picture.

Small Stories Big Picture is a self guided cycling tour that travels through the lesser-known parts of Surry Hills in Sydney. Each participant is provided with a bike, a LOMO camera, map and passport. Venues along the way will be showcasing the Designer Sushi exhibition which will show everyday objects that have been totally re-imagined. At the end of the tour the bikes and cameras are turned in and the photos will be used to create a large photographic installation. Sounds like fun to me!

Governors Island.

No Longer Empty is an organization that brings art exhibitions into some of Governors Island's abandoned properties. Simply amazing, another great idea.
