Anno Badges.

So this is basically the coolest thing ever! What a clever and good idea.

"Last year we stumbled across old magazines from the 50s & 60s in a dusty attic. This is the result. We use the original magazines to create the badges, that’s why every button is unique." -André Britz..

Oscars 2011 Fashion Favorite.

My heart started beating a little faster when I saw Cate Blanchett in this Givenchy haute couture collection dress-the hair just looks so divine paired along with it.

Low Cost Pasta.

One color print on unbleached cardboard to keep costs and environmental impact down. This is the concept by the Swedish student Erik Johansson for the design of a low-price pasta packaging. (He doesn't have a site yet, sorry for no link)

Design is for Living Vintage!

Yay! I finally started adding some of my vintage items up on Etsy. I have been meaning to do this for some time and that time has finally come.

And there's more where that came from. :) I have to say, by creative background really started with collecting antique/vintage items. I think the first thing I ever bought was a wooden cane or maybe skeleton keys. I was probably seven years old and going to estate sales with my mom. My parents have always had a special interest in antiques and I had no problem tagging along. My own collection includes, glassware, jewelry boxes, jewelry, purses, chairs, rugs, pictures, skeleton keys, ironstone, tin containers, suitcases...etc.

Biospheres.

These Biospheres are made up of inflatable modules, acrylic, rope, plants, water by Tomas Saraceno. The biospheres of this work are inspired by careful scientific studies of e.g. the formation of clouds, soap bubbles and the geometric principles in spider webs.

When I first saw the top photo it instantly reminded me of the movie Arachnophopia, which basically began my extreme fear/hate for all insects. Every time I see it on TV I have to watch it, but once it gets to the barn scene I'm done. Have you ever seen it?

Be Still Shop.

My sister and brother-in-law have been making some changes in their home and are currently re-painting their bedroom. The previous owners have black carpeting and black blinds in the room so I went along with my sister to Menards and we decided on a teal/turquoise color for the walls so they wouldn't have to replace the carpeting before they put their house on the market. She's more on the conservative side so I was worried once on the walls they would hate it, but from every HGTV show I have ever seen, I've learned it's all about staging with accessories that makes a room great. Do you think these pillows would look cool? I like.

The Cycle Sign.

This is the epitome of great design; it's simple, it's useful and it's sustainable. What more could you ask for? The Cycle Sign by Trent Jansen is a bicycle reflector made from reused road signs and bicycle tubes. Genius! Available in the Designboom online shop. Oh spring come back to us!

Opus 5 Architects.

Paris studio Opus 5 Architects have completed this island house in Brittany, France, featuring a glazed façade with sections covered by stone screens.Called Belle Iloise House, the long building is divided in two by a glazed walkway. The walkway houses a glazed footbridge, which connects the bedrooms to the rest of the house. I really do like the design of this house, because it looks cool and makes sense. Plus, it's good to see something so simple and beautiful.

Neo-Luddism.

Ben Jennings has created these booklets for the project: Neo-Luddism. "Neo-Luddism is a research-driven manifesto intended to act as a catalyst between the widening gap separating design education from the printing industry. The goal was to highlight the importance of continuing practical teaching methods alongside theoretical education at a tertiary level." -Jennings. Ok, so I'll be honest, the last sentence completely threw me off. I thought I was getting what it was about and then it got way to wordy for me and kind of just went in one ear and out the other. Sorry guys. Anyways, I still like the design and especially the sewn spine.

Waterfront Cookout.

For those of you in the Midwest, we (sadly) just had a week full of hope for spring, only to see our lawns doused with snow again (20+ inches). I just came across these oh so wonderful photos in Country Living and they have me dreaming of summer days at the cottage... and Mom's homemade hamburgers on the grill.

In Haus Press.

Came upon this new Etsy shop, In Haus Press, love. love. love. Their attention to detail has me "ooo-ing" and "ahh-ing".

Something's Hiding in Here.

Etsy's Quit Your Day Job just interviewed Something's Hiding in Here design duo Shauna Alterio and Stephen Loidolt. (Shauna previously worked at Anthropologie for 8 years - why is everyone taunting me lately!?) Anyways Shauna answered some questions about starting her own business (with Stephen, of course) and the pros vs. cons. The article is definitely worth checking out!

Swink Identity.

"The word Swink literally means “hard work” and our identity looks to reflect our roll-up-the-sleeves, approachable, hands-on mentality." They even hand stamped each of their business cards! Madison, WI (represent!) based design studio Swink revamped their identity and I have to say it is awesome.

North Yorkshire native, Emily Sutton, is the creator behind these amazing hand-stitched and painted birds. I love it!
